Oops again!

During WW II what is now the Storage Facility along the Hanney Road was being used as a provision’s depot, mainly for prison supplies. It was mainly staffed by Italian Prisoners of War who would walk – unguarded – along the railway track – to work.

One morning a man, Podge Cheshire, from Sutton Courtenay had to take a lorryload of goods to the Isle of Wight. He arrived – late - at the depot, jumped into the lorry and set off. It was not until he had reached the prison on the island that it was found he taken the wrong, and very empty, lorry.
