72-Prop

A Propeller

At the end of WWI Steventon builder, Mr Thomas Gerring, bought a job lot of timber from the Ordnance depot at Milton. Obviously after the war there was a shortage of building materials of any sort so anything that could be reused was.

Amongst the load Mr Gerring bought was a propeller that he thought was too good to be used as firewood. Many years later his son, Frank, lent the propellor to be exhibited at Steventon Flower Festival and a farmer from Harwell, Ted Lay, saw it. Being an aviation enthusiast Mr Lay recognized that it was from an SE 5A aircraft

The propeller was then donated to, and is still on display as part of the Shuttleworth Collection in Bedfordshire.
