Railings
During WWII iron etc was being collected across the country for the war effort. One day Dick Dewe saw someone cutting down the railings in the High Street and asked if he could have a go. Despite only being 12 years old he was handed the oxyacetylene torch and allowed to try. After he had cut down the railings outside cottages opposite the Fox the worker – who, let’s face it, was being paid to do the job – grudgingly told Dick that he had “not done a bad job”.
