Nursing Association
In January 1919 the Rev. Canon Meara, Vicar of Steventon, founded the Steventon and Milton District Nursing Association. Subscriptions were between 3s (15p) to 10s (50p) a year, plus extra for maternity cases.
In 1926 about £149 was raised to buy a house on the Causeway for the nurse and in 1931 more money was raised to buy the nurse a car. During WW2 there was an amalgamation with neighboring villages until, in 1948 the local nursing associations were taken over by County Councils.
The house was sold to the County Council, for £450, and eventually the Charity Commissioners agreed that monies held could be used to improve Steventon Church and build bus shelters in Milton.
